O. Henry Choice Sheet Day
Please join us for our Choice Sheet Day on Tuesday, Feb. 9. During these one hour meetings, you will learn about the 2016-17 course offerings at our school and Austin HS. We have morning and evening options:

8:30 – 9:30 a.m.—Incoming 6th grade (cafeteria); Incoming 7th grade (library)
9:30 – 10:30 a.m.—Incoming 8th grade (cafeteria)

6:00 – 6:25 p.m.—Performing Arts showcase (gym)

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.—Incoming 6th grade (cafeteria); Incoming 7th grade (Band Hall); Incoming 8th grade (library)
7:00 – 7:25 p.m.—Incoming Austin High School 9th grade—athletics info meeting (gym)

On Monday, February 1, O. Henry welcomes British author, Michael Grant, to O. Henry. Michael Grant is often referred to as the Stephen King of YA (Young Adult). His new book, Front Lines, is a revisionist history of World War II in which three girls from different backgrounds serve in combat roles. We will be selling copies of this new book and also paperback copies of Gone and its sequel, Hunger. See this link for more information on book sales. Money raised through reading goes to purchase “forever” books for low-income students here in Austin. Participants are also eligible to go on field trips to receiving schools to serve as reading buddies in May. Important: you must register online to be eligible for prizes and rewards. Top O. 2015-2016 Mid-Year Survey results

Please take a few minutes to review the mid-year parent survey results (see attachment).

For the most part, these responses have not been edited. (I did delete the names of teachers in three cases. I think it’s very inappropriate–and probably illegal–for a principal to share a disparaging comment about a specific teacher/staff member in a public communication.) Based on my 33 years as a middle school educator, I have learned that some impressions of a campus are 100% accurate, some are partially accurate, and some are 0% accurate. Whatever the level of accuracy, the main objective of conducting these annual surveys is for our campus to sort through all the responses, honestly assess them, and glean any helpful feedback to assist in our continuous growth as a campus.…
