I hope everyone is thoroughly enjoying summer vacation!
The purpose of the summer reading program is to encourage our students to become lifelong readers and learners. Research shows that students who fail to read during the summer vacation lose up to two months of reading gains each year, and the “summer slide” is cumulative. Rather than recreating our own list, we are referring parents to the Texas Library Association’s annual lists of best books for middle and high school students. We hope to encourage reading for pleasure as well as reading to develop critical thinking skills.

We challenged the O. Henry parents to step up and raise $50,000 over a six week period of time in order to save our teachers. And, once again, you came through! What a testament to the commitment our parents have for their children’s education. You all are amazing!
