O. Henry E-News: Week of Sept. 1

We have had a wonderful first week of school! The students have been terrific. We have spent a lot of time in ACES building relationships and ensuring that all students feel comfortable and valued. The new students are still learning the layout of the school and where each of their classes are. The teachers have focused their instruction on classroom expectations and procedures. Next week: the academic rigor ramps up!

Welcome back, everyone! We are so excited to see you and your children tomorrow (Aug. 25). Summer is over and the 2014-15 school year has begun!

ACES Rosters and First Day of School
Our ACES (advisory class) rosters are now posted at the front of the school (on the cafeteria windows). The students will start and end their first day of school in ACES. During the day, we will focus on social/emotional activities, to ensure the students feel comfortable and connected. Tour of the school, tug-of-war contests, etc.–it’s a really fun first day! In the first half hour of the day, the students will receive their fall course schedule.…

First Day Packet Stuffing
You and your middle school students are invited to our First Day Packet Stuffing “party” on Thursday, Aug. 21, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., in the gym. We have 1000 packets to prepare for the first day of school. This is a great way to see old friends and make some new ones. I hope everyone is thoroughly enjoying the summer break! However, it’s almost time to wrap it up and start up another school year. The administrators and office staff are in full gear getting ready!

My apologies for not emailing you sooner. Georgia has just completed the process of transferring 2000 email addresses from Lotus Notes to Outlook, our new email platform. So sorry about the delay!

The big news: our wonderful assistant principal Matt Nelson was hired this summer as the new principal of Pease Elementary School. Although we will miss his energy, enthusiasm, and genuine love for our students, we are thrilled he will still be a part of the Austin HS Vertical Team.…

Pete Price honored by Texas PTA as Finalist for Secondary Principal of the Year


O. Henry Principal Peter Price was recently recognized by the Texas PTA as an Outstanding Educator Finalist for Secondary Principal of the Year.

The Texas PTA Outstanding Educator Awards recognize teachers, principals and superintendents from across the state who have shown that a strong family‐school partnership is the key to student success.

OHMS PTA President Monique Norman said:

“Congratulations to Principal Pete Price on being selected as a finalist for the Outstanding Educator Award by Texas PTA. To be recognized as one of only ten secondary principals in a state the size of Texas is a huge honor and well deserved. Thank you Mr. Price for your amazing service!”
